Traditional Painting Demo Gouache–John Wellington

Location: Fox Commons Demo Space

John Wellington’s Gouache Demo

John Wellington often refers to gouache as watercolor for those of us that make mistakes. In this demo, John demonstrates the versatility of gouache as a sketch medium, painting an imaginary portrait. Gouache is a great “en plein air” medium as it’s easy to set up and easy to clean. That it is a forgiving medium makes gouache a joy to work with for both quick studies and finished works of art.  Gouache was also John’s go-to medium when he colored graphic novels for Marvel Comics.  John’s gouache work may be seen in the coloring of Stan Lee and Moebius’ Silver Surfer, among other notable graphic novels of the 1980’s and early 1990’s.
